Here at The Bra Boudoir we understand that we are the foundation to the outfit. With a great bra, we can transform any silhouette. But what happens after you’ve been to us?
We’ve been teaming up with super stylist Wendy Thompson to ask some of the questions we, and you, have about style over the festive season.
Q: One thing I struggle with at this time of year is shopping – it can be cold trudging the high streets but then too warm and cosy in the shops. What’s the best outfit for going shopping in?
Wendy : What a good question! The key to this is careful layering. Keep your base layer simple (a fitted long sleeve top for example) then you can add a jumper and an on trend oversized scarf to keep you cosy whilst outside but it’s an easy strip off when you go inside the shops! I would avoid wearing a coat as the last thing you’ll want to do is carry it around with you all day. Another top tip when I take ladies Personal Shopping is making sure you have a bottle of water on you too… shopping can be thirsty work!
Q: Do you think it’s best to stay classic, go with trends or a mixture?
Wendy : Yves Saint Laurant once said ‘Fashions fade, style is eternal’ and there is a lot of truth in that statement. Successful styling is all about understanding your style personality which then allows you to dress with confidence.
When I conduct a Style Analysis, we discuss five different style personalities, your preferences and your lifestyle to help determine which style personality suits you best.
Each style personality has positive aspects but also pitfalls to avoid. ‘Classic’ for example can look elegant, timeless and chic when carried out successfully but can also come across as unexciting or a little old-fashioned if you don’t get it right.
My style personality is classic/dramatic – so I might opt for a classic shirt dress but it will be a bold colour or have a strong print for example (classic with a twist). So in answer to your question (!) – a combination of classic with a nod to the trends which fall within your style personality will definitely elevate your look.
Q:Is there a classic go to night out look that you think works every time?
Wendy : Ooh this is a tricky one! I always think that you can’t beat a nice shirt/blouse with a good pair of jeans… combining softer, drapier fabrics like silk, satin or chiffon with classic denim….and to top it off a blazer – probably the best investment piece a woman can own to throw over jeans, dresses, skirts or jumpsuits.
Q: Is there a must have style gift?
Wendy: I think a blazer is a great option, as I’ve said it’s so versatile and I know I’d love to receive one as a gift!
Q: We did a piece recently on fast fashion, is it hard to keep to a budget and avoid fast fashion at this time of year?
Wendy : A lot of ladies like to have a new party outfit each year and I completely understand that (I do too)… but thanks to Vinted, eBay and other pre-loved websites, this no longer needs to be a brand new item… it can just be new to you. Yes, buy new for key pieces which you will wear often and get value from, but if you are someone who enjoys a variety of outfits and changing things up a bit then pre-loved is a real eye opener. It allows you to experiment with your style and have a lot of fun for very little investment (and of course, you are not contributing to land fill which has got to be a good thing 😉).
